• Quan Ba Heaven’s gate
The gate is located about 50 km north of Ha Giang city and this is the first gateway into Dong Van Plateau. In the past, behind the gate was a kingdom of Hmong people with 4 districts Yen Minh, Quan Ba, Meo Vac, Dong Van and French built a huge wooden door to divide this area from the rest.  Nowadays the door is no longer there, only a sign in both English and Vietnamese languages: Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate.
Here is an ideal place to see the fullest scenery of Dong Van Plateau and super huge and spectacular valley with rolling fields, with the yellow color of rice, the brown color of the ground and rock, also the roof of the ethnic’s village. Standing at heaven gate you will have chance to admire masterpiece of nature - Quan Ba Twin Mountain (also known as “Co Tien mountain”). The mountains with a strange form. It looks like the peach fruit which are related to a very interesting “Co Tien Mountain” fairy.
 
• Ma Pi Leng
 
The Ma Pi Leng Pass is Vietnam’s final frontier and is dubbed the Great Wall of Viet Nam, situated between Dong Van and Meo Vac. An area of outstanding nature beauty and geological significant. the 20km long wingding road of happiness has many sharp turn 2000m high mountain and incredible view

In the past, Ha Giang ethnic people used this road to assess Horse. The horses can conquer the pass from bottom to the top will be kept to work in farm.

About 15 kilometers away from Dong Van town. The palace is the house of Vua Meo where Hmong King was living in last 19th century, a solemn, ornate structure emerging out of the Sa Phin valley that was carefully selected according to Feng Shui. It was put in the heart of nature away from the city, the palace is surrounded by surrounded by fresh air and lush greenery. Nowadays House of Vua meo has become a well-know tourist destination due to itself of unique architecture and value of history.

Ethnic Local markets in Ha Giang always attract tourists because they are not just places for buying and selling, they are also meeting places for local ethnic minority people. Local people wear colorful costumes, all the different ethnic minority groups of the region come to the market to meet their friends, or their ex-lovers. There are many different goods are on sale in the market. In early morning, when it is blanketed with fog People come to the market to sell their farm produce and home-made products and buy clothing, plastic slippers, sandals, sport shoes ….

The ideal time to visit Hoang Su Phi is in Summer, time of rice crop. In May and Jun (rainy season), Farmers start their crop, they plow and flood terrace fields with their irrigation systems. During this period, looking from above The fields looks like huge pieces of curved mirror. When rice grows the fields have various green color with different tones. Then September and October are the most beautiful time for photographers in harvest season, Rice terrace fields spreads a yellow color like a vivid picture with farmers in colorful clothing working on fields

Dong Van old town is in the heart of the rocky plateau. Nestled in the middle of the valley with four Rocky Mountains, the old town is surround by 40 rooftops. Ha Giang in Rain season (Late April to early October)

In this season, the weather is normally humid, hot and sudden rains. Sometimes unsafe on the mountain roads of winding, sleepery & narrow passes – popular with landslides after big rainfalls. However, after the rain, it becomes clearer for beautiful captivation of stunning landscapes, majestic mountains, green valleys & rice terraces on “falling-water time”- between the late of May & the starting of June. Local ethnic people start getting rainwater from mountain down to their rice terrace for new rice crop. Looking down from above you will see local farming activities on the rice stepped fields with buffalo ploughing, harrowing & planting on the slope terrains of high mountains. The rice terraces filled with water are like a sparkling mirror to reflect the sunset, the sunrise & the blue sky. How beautiful it is to visit rice terraced fields of “falling-water” & “golden ripen- rice” periods.

Not as in rain season, it is not big shower like summer rains but a little one. The temperature is cooler down, you may sometimes experience snowing in high mountains in January or February and this is considered as the ideal season to travelling in Ha Giang. From early October, when rice terraces change its natural color from green to yellow one, it is so beautiful to have stunning captures of stepped rice fields in their different golden layers down the valleys

How to get to Ha giang ?
  • In Hanoi, you can catch a sleeper bus to Ha Giang from Mỹ Đình bus station. Buses leave almost every hour starting at 4:30 am till 1:30 pm. The night buses leave between 6 pm till 9:30 pm. The ticket should cost 200,000 dongs. The bus takes about 7-8 hours, give or take, with one mid-way stop as there is no toilet in the bus.
